  • Yes, the free service did exist. In 1992, we got a big dish and watched every Green Bay Packers game for FREE. It was sensational.

    Basically, what happened, from what I understand, is the feed from the game goes up to the satellite, which then fell down to the dishes. In the old days, there were these wild feeds that "intercepted" the signal on the way up. Magazines would print these feed channels so that people could plug into the signal.

    I can recall watching the games and never seeing commercials. No commercials! It was awesome. When they cut to commercial, we could see/hear the announcers chit chatting with each other about what was coming up when they returned from break. Sometimes, have little feuds, or tell jokes, or even It was the coolest thing ever.

    Now, we have DirecTv, so I know much about the old ways. I would assume they have now blocked the wild feeds, but again, I know. It was a great time in life to see so much for free.
